Does Your Content Tell Tales On You?
I just received an email promoting a sale from a well-known domain registrar. Their sales are always good value, but the content of this email related to a summer sale and school being almost out.
In other words, they were really only targetting a portion of their client base and not the whole client base. What about those on the other side of the world, where school is in, and winter coming upon them (as it is where I live)? I’m probably being pedantic but it is worth thinking about your audience when writing, and perhaps qualify the content a little more, saying something like, ‘’school is almost out in … and our summer is around the corner… but we have a sale that’s for everyone!”
A number of marketing and business books, and other items I’ve read over the past year, both in printed and PDF format, seem to cater mainly to those on the ‘inside’, i.e. those who live in the same region as the writer where they tend to use terminology, acronyms and other things that really only make sense to another insider. I encourage you, if you’re a writer, to think beyond your region, state and country, and write for a much wider audience. KMT
