Predictive Diallers Waste My Time!

Who’s to say whose time is more important?

I am really fed up with the amount of telemarketers who call, using the predictive dialler method. I mean, telemarketers at the best of times aren’t my favourite callers but when I answer a call only to be left with a dead line and having to wait to find out who called me is a gross disrespect for my time and I don’t like it. I know they might think it’s only a short period of time but it adds up over the days and the weeks and is disruptive. I don’t care if what they are calling about is important and perhaps I might be interested in what they have to offer, but it starts them off on the wrong foot immediately and I usually let them know that. I mean, why should I answer a call and then have to wait for the other person to come to me? I feel it’s rude and a disrespect for my time – and I am a prospective client, aren’t I?  What do you think? KMT

  1. As soon as I hear the dead line, I hang up. I don’t care what they have to offer. ;)

  2. I agree! If I receive one of those calls and my Call Display shows they are calling long distance, I just put the receiver down and leave the phone off the hook for a few minutes. If they are going to disrespect me, I don’t mind running up their long distance bill a little…

  3. My husband told me Snoskred that if you hang up before they get to you, they will call again, because it registers as an unanswered call. So I wait until I hear them come to the line and then hang up – but it still wastes my time. Hopefully with the new ‘do not call’ register here in Australia it might help drop the number of these time wasters.

  4. And don’t you just love those calls that start with a recorded voice that says, “Please hold for an important call.” EXCUSE ME! THEY called ME and then put me on hold! My response is always the same – Click!

Be warned also, that phone scams are on the rise. Some are done through relay calling to mask accents, but there are tons of other kinds as well. Businesses are a much bigger target for them than individuals.
