Getting Your Blog Out There

I was recently asked by a new Aussie blogger how to get her blog out there.  Here is my response to her – I thought I’d share it so that others who might be wondering the same can have a go too!

Re blog, you need to reach outside of your current community.

Try registering with these for example:

www.technorati.com.

http://www.aussiebloggers.com.au  – register with the forum here and get to know the members – great info and lots of great people.

Register with a subscription list like Feedburner.com so that people can subscribe to your blog.

Register with http://www.google.com/alerts for daily updates on keywords of interest (put phrases in quotes) so that if anyone posts anything of interest to you, you can blog about it on your own blog.

Keep to a theme – don’t go all over the place to draw in an audience.

Link your blog URL in your signature block.

Send out to your current list now and then to let them know about a post you’ve just published.

Ping your blog every time you add a new post at www.pingomatic.com

These should get your started.

By the way – you’ll find a list of my blogs at Technorati at http://technorati.com/people/technorati/kathiemt.  I’ve just made the Top 50 Aussie Women bloggers’ list and sit at number 30 which I’m thrilled about.

  1. Oooo I didn’t know about Ping-o-Matic!, cheers for that link!!

  2. “I’ve just made the Top 50 Aussie Women bloggers’ list and sit at number 30 which I’m thrilled about.”

Do they have a top 50 man bloggers over there? Why would sex matter? I would turn down the award on principle.

Nice blog and good tips, I found your link over at bloggeries. Feel free to delete this comment, I can’t sleep at night without leaving a comment where I see fit.

  3. I don’t think the gender matters really – it’s just that often the women’s blogs can get lost amongst all the men’s blogs. And I guess women like to look for topics other women are interested in. When I first started blogging three years ago there were NO women on the top Australian blogs list at all and I made it my goal to get on that list. I’ve achieved it.

Glad you like my blog – thanks for dropping by.

  4. Kathie, after posting my comment last night I went on a mission to find out who authored the blogs that I read daily. Well over 50% of the blogs that I read are written by women! While an authors sex, race, creed…….does not matter over the quality of their content, it would be interesting to see what percentage of the worlds “top bloggers” are women.

Side note, glad to see you on bloggeries!

  5. i’ve never heard about Ping-o-Matic! but you’ve described in a best way which helped me to learn while reading this post.
