Facebook virus – don’t click on the link!
For the second time in a month I’ve received a message on my wall at my Facebook page saying that my photo had been seen at a site. The first time I clicked on it unawares and immediately my antivirus program (Trend Micro) warned me of a problem and wouldn’t let me view the page. I went to the guy who posted a message on my wall and saw there were heaps of wall messages he’d left within a few minutes – a sure sign something was wrong. I left a message for him to say he had a virus and also sent a personal email to him.
I then removed the wall notice from my Facebook so that no-one else would click on it – important you do that!
This morning one of my clients left a similar message and I immediately contacted her and her VA support to advise that one of them had a virus and it had infected the Facebook profile.
I’ve researched articles on it but haven’t found any fixes – just best to keep your antivirus program updated every single day.
Internet News – Facebook Attack
Now Public – Facebook Virus Attacks Again
And even UrbanLegend is confirming there is a virus.
Facebook has told members to delete contaminated e-mails and has posted directions at www.facebook.com/security on how to clean infected computers.
I have a free online virus scanner (owned by Trend Micro which is the program that saved me from grief) at my site at http://www.acs-webhosting.com/ in the bottom right-hand corner of the page.

Kathie,
I heard about this happening to someone else a few weeks ago, and forgot about it, now seeing you share it makes me wonder about the security of facebook…should I be concerned?
I haven’t stopped into my account for a while.
Claudia
Hi Claudia, only if you click on a link without being sure what it might be and especially if you don’t have a current (up-to-date) anti virus program.
Basically the message arrives on your wall (or notification via email from Facebook) saying that your photo was seen at …. and it could be at anywhere but it’s mainly the link – don’t click on it.
Kathie,
Thank you for reminding us about this virus. I’ll be extra vigilant when reading my FB wall. I always keep my virus protection up to date, too! Thank goodness there is some good to fight the bad!
I still think that there could be security problems which I have voiced elsewhere.
Kathie,
Thanks again for the reminder about this as it’s important to keep it present in my mind. It is easy to forget and click without thinking using my fast fingers.
On a sidenote, this may seem silly, but how do you remove anything from your wall? I can’t seem to do it.
Thanks!
Kelly
Hi Kelly, if you hold your mouse on the right-hand side of the wall you’ll get an edit link come up and then you can click on delete.
I have seen this warning before but is has been awhile. Thanks for this fresh reminder. ~Carla
Thanks for the warning about the virus. I stayed away from facebook for a long time because of the rumors about viruses, but I have recently signed on.
I am cautious or rather try to be cautious of what I click on and only from people that I know, but you still can’t be too careful. Luckily, my husband is an IT pro, so we always keep our virus protection up to date. But it only takes one little opps! or clicking on something you don’t think is harmful and then you are infected.
Thanks again for the warning!
Thank you so much about the information of the virus! But my computer has just been infected with a horrible virus and basically destroyed it. Even if I had not clicked on any links could it still have come from facebook?
but how do i scan online if i can’t even get online now that the computer is infected?
Donna, Mandy, I have the SAME problem. I think I got the ‘trojan’ that everyones talking about. Cheap Web Hosting I get tons of pop ups. My facebook has been saying “facebook.com/common/error.” for about 3 days now. My blackberry works fine with facebook. I’ve used different computers to log into my facebook, but for some reason just MY personal computer won’t let me log in..
Anyone have any idea how to help me out??? I’ve been very frustrated the last couple days.
I heard of it last year. one of my friend had his facebook profile infected. He’s profile really loads very slow. While other windows are not. I don’t know how he’d fixed it. I also received chained message from my friends and I’m very to much aware if it contain virus..I agree with what would be the first thing to do with it.
