Learning about Twitter

I’ve had a Twitter account for sometime now and it really took me sometime to understand what it is about.  But now I’m hooked!

I’ve signed up for some autoresponders on how to use Twitter and have been applying some of those things. In just 24 hours I’ve had an increase in 100 followers with several actually corresponding with me, which is great.  And I have a potential new project on the horizon simply from a chance (and flippant) comment to someone after they saw a tweet I’d made.  Amazing but that project has possibilities.

I also see our PM, Kevin Rudd, twittering about his activities and feel it’s great that he and his staff keep abreast of social networking tools to remain visible and up-to-date.

I’ve also learnt about Twitwall which allows you to add to your meagre bio at Twitter.  And it is free and connects to your existing Twitter account so picks up on your chosen background.

I see a lot of Virtual Assistants on there and many I know are finding new clients as a result. Just goest o show you can’t dismiss a new tool or fad too quickly on the web – people keep finding new things they can create to add to an idea and build new businesses just from that alone!

Have you begun twittering yet?

Tag Generator for blogging

If you’re like me, you like to add tags for your keywords when blogging. Firefox had a great add-on that worked but when they upgraded the plugin no longer worked. And Technorati have either stopped or shifted the tag generator they used to have on display when you logged in. But a bit of searching found me one that works a treat and has many facets to it.  Free Tag Generator and Social Bookmark Generator.

I use it often, it’s very easy to use and it’s bookmarked so I can find it all the time.  Thought I’d share the treasure I found with all my readers.

Twitter – the fastest news source?

I was checking for updates on Twitter this morning and noticed a message posted only 2 mins previous. A plane had come down in New York.  Another Twitter post followed shortly thereafter, then another and another.  Then I saw an email come through Outlook on one of my forums announcing similar.  The 8am news came on only 10 mins later with a report on what had taken place. Thankfully all on board the plane are safe and have been rescued.

I’m still learning how Twitter works but it’s all now falling into place for me, and has been for the past few weeks.  I’m sure there’s more to learn about it.  But seeing a fresh news item there before anywhere else was rather a revelation to me!

Enjoying Photography

My husband spoilt me with a a brand new Digital SLR Camera for Christmas. It’s a Nikon D90 and takes lots of photos in quick succession (up to 100 which it buffers then saves to the memory card) so it now means I can take action shots without having to wait for my camera to catch up with me and be ready.  I found that most frustrating when out at Mountain Bike Races with my husband.

Anyway, I have a photo blog so I won’t post many photos here, but thought I’d share a small number with you, to give you some idea of what I’ve been doing.  If you click on the image below you’ll see an album of shots I have loaded at Facebook. This picture is of Shadow, one of our cats. Amazing what you find in the garden, isn’t it?

I’m thinking I might print some of these and frame them or see if I can put them on items such as mugs, cards, posters and such and sell them. What do you think?

Photography is something I’ve always enjoyed and I used to belong to a club many years ago – before I started my business.  I’m hoping to pick it up again soon.  As our children fly the coop and Graham and I become ‘empty nesters’ I find I want to spend more time outside and in the country.  And my new camera will become my constant companion – after all I have to show hubby just how much I appreciate his gift to me, don’t I? ;-)
