One thing I want to point out is social networking is a two-way street. What good is it for me to reach out and extend the hand of friendship if all you're trying to do is SELL, SELL, SELL? That's why I believe it's better to have "quality" numbers than just "quantity."

Unfortunately, a site like Twitter can make it nearly impossible to really get to know someone but if you handle it properly, you will find you can increase your business along with your friendships.

I completely agree with your assessment Kathie. I was giving a presentation at a local networking event recently about Social Network Marketing and there was one guy there who just didn't quite "get it". He was very "old school" in his way of thinking about marketing and "advertising" and could not grasp that you don't "sell" and that you had to "build a relationship" with your network. If you aren't willing to invest at least SOME of your own time into social networking, then social networking may not be the best fit for you.

I'm always surprised when someone engages in "networking" to form relationships, yet won't spend the time needed to nurture those relationships so they become beneficial.

There are so many unique, personal activities needed to solidify a relationship that they cannot be automated. Relationships are built on back-and-forth conversation, frequency of interaction, level of concern for each other, and other interpersonal activities.
